The International Discworld Convention - 8-11 August 2014

The Ankh-Morpork Grand Exhibition

The Discworld Convention is a four-day celebration of Sir Terry Pratchett and his glorious astrochelonian-riding pachyderm-borne creation.

The Ankh-Morpork Grand Exhibition is also a four-day celebration of the culture, technology and industry of the great city of Ankh-Morpork, which is coincidentally being held at the same place and time. At least from a certain point of view. This is what you get for hiring a history monk as an event organiser.

The 2014 event took place from the 8th to 11th of August at the Palace Hotel, in Manchester, UK.

You can go over our live blog to read about the Convention as it was happening,
and we have collected links to various Photo sets from the Convention members

Messages from the Chairmen

Ops has been closed, the tables put on the chairs and the lights turned off. The Discworld Convention 2014 is officially over! I hope you all had a great time and from the comments I have been given that certainly seems to be the case. I would like to thank the Committee for all their hard work over the weekend as they made this event happen, our Guests for giving up their time to come and entertain and educate us, the Palace Hotel staff for being the best team of people I have ever met and finally you for all coming and making it something special.

We are aware that the building presented challenges and so myself and the Committee will be have many discussions and a formal de-brief over the next few months where we will look at these and other points. If you have a comment or suggestion, please email us at info@dwcon.org and also take some time to fill in our survey - www.dwcon.org/survey. We will read every email and look at every survey response.

It may seem like a long time to 2016 but that will fly by I'm sure.

John (Dr Hix) Hicks
Convention Chairman

At the moment I am writing this, less than two days have passed since I returned home and my brain is still trying to cope with the time distortion that is a Discworld Convention. Monday morning at the convention you wake up, astounded that it is already the last day of the Convention. Wednesday you are back at work, and so much has happened in those few days that you are astounded that you have only been away for one week1. So many happy people, so many things to do, (ok, I'll throw in a so many stairs), so many fabulous guests and so many smiley, happy faces. Time simply compresses.

Two days since I returned home. In the mean time our Survey has gone on-line and the first volunteers for the ConCom have already started discussing things for the next Con. Somehow, a Convention never truly goes away.

Please fill in that survey, it will help us tremendously.

Two years to go. I am looking forward to it, and I am especially looking forward to seeing all of you in 2016.

Eelco,
Chairman Discworld Convention 2016
